Home Office to close Phoenix Hotel
It has been informed by the UK Home Office recently that they plan to fully decant the Phoenix Hotel in North Weald, which is currently being used as asylum accommodation.
The decant will take place over the coming weeks. All its occupants have been notified and will be relocated to other parts of the asylum estate. The news follows the closure of the Bell Hotel in Epping in July 2026.
There are now no hotels in the Epping Forest district used to house newly arrived asylum seekers.
The news, from Ready Homes, a subsidiary of Clearsprings Ready Homes Ltd who work for the UK Home Office to provide short-term housing for asylum seekers, came as a complete surprise despite our repeated attempts at proactive engagement with them.
